The National Junior Honor Society at St. Mark’s Cathedral School is a club that recognizes and honors high grades and exceptional service.
To be considered for the NJHS, seventh grade students must first have a GPA of 3.5 or higher from their sixth grade year. Those students who meet the GPA requirement are then invited to fill out an application, which focuses on service (at school and in the community) as well as leadership. A committee of teachers evaluates the applications, and upon averaging the grades, invitations to join are distributed. If a student in seventh grade or eighth grade has not made the GPA requirement in one semester, he or she can be reconsidered in the second semester of the school year, and if the GPA has risen, he or she will be invited to fill out an application.
Once a student is a member of the NJHS, he or she will work on service projects throughout the year. Our biggest project is the Veteran’s Day Ceremony. This program honors all of the heroic men and women that fought and continue to fight for our freedom.
Students in the NJHS must complete five additional hours of service over the course of the year.
