The National Junior Honor Society at St. Mark’s Cathedral School is a club that recognizes and honors high grades and exceptional service.
To be considered for the NJHS, students must first have a GPA of 3.75 or higher from the prior semester of attendance at SMCS. Those students who meet the GPA requirement are then invited to fill out an application, which focuses on service (at school and in the community) as well as leadership. A committee of teachers evaluates the applications, and upon averaging the grades, invitations to join are distributed. If a student has not made the GPA requirement in one semester, he or she can be reconsidered the next school year, and if the GPA has risen, he or she will be invited to fill out an application.
Once a student is a member of the NJHS, he or she will work on service projects throughout the year. Our biggest project is the Veteran’s Day Ceremony. This program honors all of the heroic men and women that fought and continue to fight for our freedom.
Students in the NJHS must complete two additional hours of service each quarter in addition to the four service hours required of all Middle School students.
